Power Factor Correction (APFC) technology can greatly improve the voltage and current waveforms, at the same time ,it can also improve system power factor and stability. The issue adopts UC3854 with UNITRODE company to design a single-phase active power factor correction circuit with capacity of 250W and who achieves the simulation in the PSIM environment.
This article points out their each applicability occasion by comparing the passive power factor correction and active power factor correction, this circuit applies Boost converter circuit topology to improve the power factor and control harmonic waves, while adopting voltage feedback to make the output voltage to be smooth and stable DC voltage. In this circuit, the boost inductor of major circuit makes an transmission, storage and filtering effect, and that determines the size of high frequency ripple of input current. PSIM software what I used do the simulation of circuit, analyzed and compared to different values of the inductance of the input current waveform and made the Fourier analysis of waveforms, and further verified the results of theoretical analysis.
The experimental result indicated that the UC3854 core of active power factor correction as designed can obtain the stable DC output voltage in the inputting scope of 80~270V, besides, cause the power factor to 0.98 and achieve the desired effect.
