The Injection Mold Design of a Plastic Cap Based on 3D
Abstract
Injection molding can form a plastic part of complex shape with the advantages of short cycle time, high production efficiency and size accuracy. Injection mold industry is one of the greatest potential molds today. This paper is about the mold structural and three-dimensional (3D) design of a cleansing foam cap. This mold is designed as four-cavity, two parting-face and point gate, molding parts using the whole embedded structures. The 3D CAD was used extensively in the mold design. First of all, the UG software was used to model the plastic cap in three-dimensional environment. Then the 3D UG Mold wizards was used to model all the injection mold parts in three-dimensional environment correspondingly. At last the 3D models were transformed to two-dimensional drawing of the general mold assembly drawing and the part drawings of important mold components. Generally, this mold structure design is reasonable and simple, and the three-dimensional design is visual and easy for mold CAM and CNC. The design principle and process is useful for this kind of part in the mold design and manufacturing.
