Abstract: The common treatments of phenolic wastewater were extraction, biological oxidation, chemical precipitation, oxidizer, Steam stripping, chemical and physical adsorption, and often use the two or over two species of the above method joint secondary treatment, however, in the majority of the above treatments, residual phenol concentration was high in wastewater and the concentration was between 100-500 mg / L. New high efficiency oxidizer chlorine dioxide (ClO2) was used to treat phenol wastewater and the excellent oxidation resistance has been widely applied in the aspects of disinfection, sterilization, environment, sewage treatment and so on. Chlorine dioxide was produced with sodium nitrite, the consistency of chlorine dioxide was determined with malonic acid. The o–nitrophenol solution was prepared at 200 mg/L, it was diluted when used. The oxidation effect of chlorine dioxide was researched. The effects of temperature, stirring speed, pH, initial phenol concentration, reaction time, the amount of chlorine dioxide on the experiment were studied. The optimal conditions were obtained. The removal rate was above 90% under the optimal conditions. This method is an effective method for the treatment of wastewater containing phenol.
