The advent of the "silent language", which marks the beginning of the study of intercultural communication, is becoming more and more important for the language workers to realize the importance of intercultural communication competence. Emphasizing the cultivation of intercultural communicative competence, we should talk about the relationship between vocabulary and culture. The vocabulary in a language is not isolated, it is a very important part of culture, vocabulary has the characteristics of culture, it is the carrier of culture, language, vocabulary and cultural interaction, mutual constraints. The relationship between vocabulary and culture in language has been the most obvious in the communication of people with different cultural background, so that students can effectively cross cultural communication.
Hammerly (1982) proposed the culture teaching in the early, middle and advanced stages. The first stage mainly introduced the connotation and meaning of the words, and the second stage is to guide the students to understand the cultural differences and customs. The third stage is to guide the students to study the target culture and to investigate the importance of the culture.
According to the present situation of foreign language teaching in China, a language is not limited to the language itself, the culture teaching is an important aspect to cultivate students' intercultural communicative competence. Therefore, it is necessary to cultivate students' intercultural communication and second language vocabulary learning.

1. The significance of cultivating cross cultural communication
1.1 Improve students' understanding of different cultural values 
 Culture is a kind of social spirit power, the cultural values of different nations of the world have many similarities. Cross cultural communication means that people with different cultural backgrounds can achieve the purpose of smooth communication in various ways. Different social systems, different economic conditions, different historical stages of development will have different cultural phenomena. Regardless of the same value or different values, the cultural characteristics of the natural language will leave a mark. The cultivation of students' intercultural awareness is not only an effective development of the traditional foreign language teaching mode, which can only be taught in grammar. Language and culture are closely linked, through the second language learning, to enable students to achieve self culture, acceptance of cultural differences to put yourself in understanding and respect different cultures. Good English language skills are a great advantage in English speaking countries, but also to improve the level of language. To understand the culture behind the language, it can help students to improve the understanding of the value of language and culture, respect for the differences of foreign cultures. English teaching materials not only contains the Chinese traditional culture, but also the culture of English speaking countries, guide students to correctly identify and appreciate the Chinese and Western culture, is conducive to the formation of a correct outlook on life and values of students.
1.2 Understanding  different cultural background knowledge to promote
cross-cultural communication
Cultural heritage and communication are through the exchange of language to complete. Translation is from the semantic to the style in the middle of the target language the closest and most natural equivalent reproduction of the original language information. Therefore, to do a good job of translation and cross-cultural communication, we must pay attention to the cultural background knowledge and learning of the two languages. English is learning science and technology knowledge, access to all aspects of the world, the important tool for international communication, master English in today's China is particularly important. In the globalization and internationalization of today, people want to improve the level and ability of cross-cultural communication. Communication is the process of people use language knowledge and social and cultural knowledge transfer information process, so learning language and understanding of language reflects the cultural background knowledge is not divided. To understand English culture background knowledge, it is beneficial to cultivate students' pure language skills, so that they can talk to the social customs of the British beauty in the future.
1.3 Vocabulary learning is an important factor in cross cultural communication.
The two main factors that affect the cross-cultural communication, one is the characteristics of the language itself, and then one is the characteristics of learners themselves. The obstacle of vocabulary learning is firstly determined by the complexity of vocabulary itself. Vocabulary is the basic unit of the structure and meaning of language. This characteristic decides that vocabulary is the key and difficult point in language learning. Vocabulary has a large number of features, such as a large number of rules and difficult to control, because of the lack of knowledge of vocabulary knowledge, it often brings great difficulties to learners. Learn a word not only to read and write, to understand its local and literal meaning, but also must understand the word's syntactic features, semantic features, and more closely related to the meaning of the word and the word. Therefore, it is necessary to make the students to their own learning process, learning style, common strategy and other enhanced awareness, only their learning confidence in their own to improve their learning after the negative.
