Abstract
3D (3-dimensional) animation is a new style of movie/TV art, which is developed together with the development of computer technology. Computer-based 3D animation means that the movie is totally produced by computer. Computer science (hardware and software) step forward very quickly in recent year, a number of 3D animation tools have been developed, and the old 3D animation software have improved much. For example, GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) is a new computer technology, it has been widely used in bulk scientific calculation, and 3D animation since it has been invented. This technology largely improved the quality and effection of 3D animation.
In the working group that finish this 3D movie, the main task for me is modeling and effects because of my expertise in 3D modeling and application of effects. The dissertation discuss the story design, 3D modeling, material, effects applying and productive process of this 3D animation. “Rebuild” is a ten minutes computer-based 3D animation. For 3D modeling of roles and scenes, we use Maya, Z-brush , VUE as main development tools. The dynamic calculation and image rendering were completed by use RUINS (software) and Ferryball (software) calling GPU. The using of GPU greatly improved the efficiency of image processing and quality of the image in the movie. “Rebuild” is a science fiction.
The story happens in Guilin sometime in the future. Because of the climate change and environment pollution, Guilin has had become a desert, no trees, no water, just sand and bare mountains. The movie tell a story about a scientist who has a dream that is to recover the beautiful Guilin like before. He had paid great effort to do that, but failed. “Rebuilt” is an alert that remind people to think “Does the earth environment can be rebuilt, if it has been polluted, damaged, ruined?”
