In China, most junior middle schools begin to set English class for the students from Grade one officially. According to the principle of the interest, English teaching and study at this stage would directly affect the students’ later English learning interest and the quality. At present,most schools are still carrying out exam-oriented education which emphasizes the result of the examination and ignore the interests of learning English and the ability of using English, although the system of “education for all-round development” has been proposed. Thus, the listening and speaking ability haven’t been developed and improved greatly. The content and style of the test are not adjusted to the teaching and learning aim. As a result, there is much gap between the knowledge of the language and the use of the language, between the result of the test and the practical ability, and the ability of using the language is far from satisfactory, which results from the concept and teaching of some authorities and teachers. To change this situation, the teaching methods and concept of the teachers are essential. The paper tries to study the training of the interests of English learning and how to improve the students’ listening and speaking ability.
