ABSTRACT
This paper first explores the significance of memorizing English words in the context of ELT practice in China. It points that memorizing English words is the major trouble that most English learners will come across. It then elaborates the memory researches at home and abroad, and according the characteristics of English words and use Ebbinghaus forgetting curve to memorize English vocabulary sufficiently and efficiently. It finally discusses classifying English words, which means using semantic field theory to rearrange the vocabulary of CET4 and CET6,will help English learners enrich their vocabularies efficiently.
