BSTRACT
Ancient poetry is a world-famous spiritual treasure in the 5,000-year-long civilization of the Chinese nation. Poems of the Tang Dynasty, in particular, a dazzling pearl of literary treasure in the world. Among the poets in the flourishing age of Tang Dynasty, Li Bai has a very distinct artistic style; and in the history of Chinese poetry, his works also show his unique personality. It is said that each color in poetry displayed poets’ emotion and social culture context in Tang and Song Dynasties and thus color images are of unique artistic charm.
To have a better understanding of the color images in Li Bai’s poetry, in the first part, a brief introduction is given to the general life, achievement and research value. In the third part, it expounds the functions and the classifications of color images in Li Bai's poems. In the fourth part, it reviews major translation schools, the skills which must be mastered and the spirit which should be reflected. Mistranslation of color image will be analyzed.
This paper intends to focus on the appreciation of the different color images in Li Bai's poems, and also on the study of the principles and techniques which must be mastered in translation. We ask the translators to bear two points in mind: the awareness and responsibility to promote cross-culture communication, which requires their best effort to convey both the form and culture connotation of color images; secondly, their trust in their intended readers giving them the dynamic participation and freedom in the appreciation of the poems they translated.
