This article firstly introduces the currently development status and the application status of exterior insulation around the world. Then it elaborates the application of solid waste used on exterior insulation as the admixture of insulation mortar. At the same time, it introduces the performance and the currently development status of rubber concrete, which uses the reprocessed waste tires as its admixture. Starting the point at the environmental protection and energy conservation, it introduces the feasibility and mechanism of rubber cement used on exterior insulation as insulation mortar. A series of tests indicate that the compressive strength and the flexural strength of mortar blocks which incorporate rubber are reduce to some extent. However, adding some methyl cellulose ether and lingo-cellulose at the same time can increase the water retention and performance of mortar, so it can decrease the drop of value of the compressive strength and the flexural strength of rubber mortar.
