Abstract: As an important educational measurement, formative assessment reflects the whole learning process and aims at adjusting and improving the teaching and learning methods through providing teachers and students with immediate and effective feedback. Numerous studies on the theory and practice of formative assessment have been conducted both at home and abroad. This paper expatiates on how to apply formative assessment in college foreign language teaching and learning effectively through introducing theories ,concept and its edge over other forms of assessment , it also tries to present problems and strategies in teaching practice of our college.
